Remembering Roy

Roy Castle was a beloved entertainer. He could dance, sing and act. He could play dozens of instruments and held multiple world records. But this isn’t what made him special; it was the selfless way he lived out the final few months of his life.

30 years ago, Roy embarked on an epic three-day journey – the Tour of Hope – raising the profile of lung cancer and funds for essential research.

To commemorate this special occasion, we want to hear your memories of Roy. Leave a dedication to one of the good one...

ROY CASTLE

My own father had succumbed to lung cancer aged just 39, so I was well aware of the dangers of smoking. Although I was aware of Roy's epic last journey, I continued to smoke, knowing what my father went through in 1950 and Roy went through in 1994. The difference was, that my father and I smoked. In early 2000, I was diagnosed with inoperable lung. I had stopped smoking about 15 months earlier. I was lucky and survived. Roy's involvement has saved so many lives in the past 30 years.
